The basics of healthy living are well known now, you can access information from NHS sources such as the Surgery nurse, and many newspapers have health sections.
Smoking is by far the most life shortening habit..if you can't quit by yourself, join a smoking cessation clinic at your Surgery.
Alcohol kills people every year mainly from accidents while drunk, but clearly many people take too much and know it. You know if this is true for you, if you can't quit then there are clinics in every town, again your Surgery will know the number.
Diet is next to smoking..bad food kills, slowly and not as badly as smoking, but you need those greens, those veggies and fruits, with less of those fatty and over sugared things, also a little fish is good..a Mediterranean diet is ideal..don't take vitamin pills or antioxidants or supplements instead of a good intake of fruits and veg, they don't work..there are only a few times vitamin supplements are advised, they are folic acid if considering having a baby, and vitamin D for old people to keep the bones strong. Iron is needed by women because they bleed every month also pregnancy, the blood loss of giving birth and breast feeding take a lot of iron from their bone marrow stores. If iron is taken, a blood test should be done.Very rarely too much can be taken.
Weight and diet are obviously linked. Overweight raises the blood fats and the blood pressure. This leads to damage to the arteries leading eventually to heart attack or stroke. Diabetes also comes on with its greatly increased risk of heart attack. Overweight is connected with bad diet and this increases the risk of cancer. Also the lower limbs suffer from the weight and the knees become arthritic.

Exercise links with diet and being the correct weight to enhance the effects of these things. It takes discipline to take regular exercise in this modern existance.
Mental Health. The body contains the mind, the real life. Mental Health also has simple rules. Here is a summary.

SCIENCE is thought to contradict the Bible, evolution being the thing most mentioned. Consider this.
We observe a staggeringly complex detail in all living things, far in excess of anything man made.The most powerful computer is nothing compared with the marvels within living cells. No one believes that if we wait long enough on the sea shore a computer will rise out of the sand all by itself, yet we are prepared to believe that everything living happened all by itself! A recent movement called Intelligent Design develops the idea that the wonders of nature are compelling evidence of creation by a supernatural Intellect, God. The thousands of mechanisms that abound in the cell, the unit of life, to make and regulate all it's functions and the perfection seen in the functions of larger structures e.g. perception of the surrounding world by the eye and the brain are examples of this.
The observed close similarities between living things gave rise to the evolution idea. It is I think a reasonable opinion that for the Biosphere [the total of living things] to interact and function this similarity has to be. Otherwise for example there would be nothing to eat, insects could not interact with flowers and all sorts of other examples of interaction could not occur. Another outcome of this similarity is Biodiversity with its astonishing variation and associated vitality enabling all sorts of niches to be successfully inhabited. Furthermore the reuse by the Creator of working devices in subsequent forms of life seems very logical, building on what was already there.

The early chapters of Genesis were given by God for a purpose- to counter the world view of the time which was that there were many gods and there was no emphasis on moral behavour. The account is therefore very brief, emphasises that the world was created by One God and that we are accountable to Him, and laying down basic moral ideas and duties.
Evidence that the Bible is a true revelation and that there is indeed another existance beyond our Universe comes from looking at History, particularly the Life of Jesus, for which there is overwhelming historical evidence, and the evidence of Miracles granted in answer to prayer to Jesus.

SUFFERING has been so severe through History that people wonder how a God of love can let this go on.
God has however given us a Plan. He sees what we see, and it breaks His heart. The proof that this is so is seen in Jesus. We know that our God is the Suffering God, not the indifferent God. Because Jesus suffered and died to pay for our sins, to make it possible for us to come to Him, we know God knows all there is to know about suffering as Jesus is part of God. His plan is to tell everyone about the forgiveness available if we turn from our sins and trust in Jesus to forgive our sins, if we believe He died for us and rose again defeating the power of death.When all have heard, He will return in power and glory to Jerusalem and will rule the world and put an end to evil. Meantime we are to tell this message and do what we can to relieve suffering, until He returns.
OTHER RELIGIONS It is surprisingly easy to compare religions as there are only four options.
One is that God is a force, not a conscious Person. The reincarnation religions, Hinduism and Buddhism believe this.
One is that there is no God at all, Atheism.
One is that God is a Person but that he has not become a human being. Example Islam.
And the final One that God is a Person and that He has become a human being in Jesus of Nazareth.

Have confidence in the Bible, the Book God has provided and approved as the official textbook of the Faith.
Example GENESIS 1-11.. Why was this particular selection, for brief selection it is, given to the original readers? To counter the current polytheistic [Hinduistic] world view. Forget worrying about evolution. You can have your cake and eat it- Genesis 1 talks about Let the Earth bring forth.. which if you want it would accommodate evolution! Genesis 2-3 lays down essential moral truths, including the first of many remarkable prophecies about the coming of a Redeemer of mankind. Genesis 4-11 is God’s opinion of early civilisation which is considered to have started in the Middle East.
Example THE PROPHETS..Contain many prophecies about cities and nations in the Middle East which have been fulfilled, also many prophecies of the coming of a Divine Person, a Suffering Servant and a Conquering King, fulfilled in Jesus Who is to come again as Conquering King, of which time other prophecies await fulfilment. Only the Bible prophecies are consistently accurate. Also, by the way, many historical references in the prophets have mentions in the annals of the surrounding nations of the time.
Example THE GOSPELS.. The Gospels pass with flying colours all the tests used by lawyers to authenticate historical documents. The evidence is compelling, indeed overwhelming, that they are accurate accounts. The Gospels clearly present a Person whose claims, character and miraculous power indicate His deity as the Second Person of the Tri-Une God..This is the Rock on which Jesus would build His Church- His divine Personhood..The Church is the container for it’s awesome product, the New Testament, containing this Good News about Jesus, God’s Son.
The Nature of God
Only the Bible declares that we are made in the IMAGE of God, which means that He is sufficiently like us for real, person to person interaction to occur.
God is a plural Person- a Tri-Une God, three Persons existing in perfect harmony with each other and capable of will, understanding and emotion. Yet always by Jew and Christian viewed as One God.
The character of God- His awesome Holiness, His insistence on moral perfection together with His perfect love- a love so perfect that He gave His own life to buy forgiveness for our sins places the God of the Bible above anything else on Earth.
Right from the start the Church has called us to repent towards God, trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and to receive the Holy Spirit.
The Gospel. God’s way to be righteous [Right with God].
God declares that we are incapable of meeting His requirement to love God and to love our neighbour by ourselves, that we fall far short.
So God declares a new way to be right with God. If we surrender to God from our rebellion against and independence from Him and trust in Jesus His Son for forgiveness which is available because He died to pay for the sins of the whole world. His death was effective to pay for the whole world’s sins because of Who He is- the sinless Son of God- God Himself! We then must continue in this righteousness through continuing to trust in Jesus. Being saved is a constant continuing process of re-repenting and continuing to trust for continuing cleansing, all through the work of God’s Spirit who indwells us to help us..only the Bible says this amazing thing, that God actually indwells us..let us awake and repent of our slowness to believe!
